PEE-WEE’S BIG ADVENTURE, BATMAN RETURNS, SALEM and POWER RANGERS star Diane Salinger hits DCS April 23-24!
Diane Salinger’s offbeat nature and striking features have made her a popular choice for inventive filmmakers. Tim Burton first directed the enigmatic actress early in her career in 1985’s PEE-WEE’S BIG ADVENTURE, where she took on the role of “Simone” (a roadside diner waitress who moves to Paris looking for love), and she also appeared in Burton’s BATMAN RETURNS as Esther Cobblepot (The Penguin’s mother) in 1992. Henry Jaglom was so impressed with the actress that he cast her in five of his movies: VENICE/VENICE, LAST SUMMER IN THE HAMPTONS, QUEEN OF THE LOT, JUST 45 MINUTES TO BROADWAY, and OVATION, and the talented star has been directed by Academy Award winners Woody Allen and Clint Eastwood. Other film roles include CREATURE, THE MORNING AFTER, BIRD, ALICE, THE BUTCHER’S WIFE, THE SCARLET LETTER, GHOST WORLD, the REST STOP movies, DARK HOUSE, TERRI, FIRST PERIOD, ALL HALLOW’S EVE, SLAY BELLES and PEE-WEE’S BIG HOLIDAY.
Away from the big screen the Delaware-born actress has also enjoyed an impressive theatre career. In 2015 she received the Independent Theater Award for her portrayal of Tallulah Bankhead in LOOPED, and a Drama-Logue Award and the LA Drama Critics Circle Award for playing a schizophrenic in Zephyr Theatre’s STANDING ON MY KNEES. Her numerous Off Broadway Theatre credits include A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM, PHANTASIE, DESIRE UNDER THE ELMS and AGAMEMNON.
Salinger has also starred in numerous television roles, including appearances in STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE, CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM, and HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, and perhaps most notably as old witch Rose Browning in the first season of supernatural horror series SALEM, or the recurring role of Apollonia on CARNIVALE. You can also hear her as the voice of Queen Bansheera in POWER RANGERS: LIGHTSPEED RESCUE. This is a rare and unique convention appearance, and we’re extremely happy to have Diane join us for DALLAS COMIC SHOW’s Spring Spectacular this April 23-24, 2022!
